Introduction

What is Shingles?

  • A painful rash caused by reactivation of the chickenpox virus (varicella-zoster). It can lead to long-term nerve pain.

  • ● Adults aged 50+ or 18+ with weakened immunity (e.g. chronic illness, medication).

  • ● Vaccine: Shingrix (over 90% effective)
  • ● Dosage: 2 doses, 2–6 months apart
  • ● Common side effects: Redness, swelling, tiredness, mild fever (usually last 2–3 days)
  • ● Not suitable for: Pregnant women or those allergic to vaccine components

Introduction

What is Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR)?

Measles, mumps and rubella are highly contagious viral infections. Measles can cause fever, rash, pneumonia and serious complications such as encephalitis. Mumps may lead to swelling of the salivary glands and, in some cases, infertility or meningitis. Rubella is usually mild in children and adults but can cause severe birth defects if infection occurs during pregnancy.

Eligible Individuals

  • ● Children and adults who have not completed MMR vaccination
  • ● Adults born after 1967 with uncertain vaccination history
  • ● Healthcare workers, students, and people travelling to areas with outbreaks
  • ● Women of childbearing age (with confirmed non-pregnant status)

Vaccine Overview

The MMR vaccine is a combined live attenuated vaccine that protects against measles, mumps and rubella in a single injection. It is highly effective in preventing infection and reducing the risk of serious complications and community outbreaks. The vaccine is usually given as one or two doses depending on age and vaccination history.

Aftercare

  • ● Not suitable for pregnant women or individuals with severe immunodeficiency
  • ● Mild fever, rash or injection-site discomfort may occur and usually resolve within a few days

What is Human Papillomavirus (HPV)?

Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a very common group of viruses, mainly transmitted through sexual contact. Most infected individuals have no noticeable symptoms. However, certain high-risk HPV types can cause cancers such as cervical cancer, anal cancer, and oropharyngeal cancer, while low-risk types may cause genital warts. 

Causes

Eligible Individuals

  • ● Suitable for both males and females
  • ● Generally recommended for individuals aged 9–45 years
  • ● Ideally given before sexual debut, but individuals with prior sexual experience can still benefit

Vaccination Schedule

  • ● Ages 9–14: 2 doses (0, 6–12 months)
  • ● Ages 15 or above: 3 doses (0, 2, 6 months)
Symptoms

Vaccine Overview

The 9-valent HPV vaccine protects against multiple high-risk and low-risk HPV types, helping to prevent cervical cancer, anal cancer, oropharyngeal cancer, and genital warts. It covers 9 HPV types: 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, and 58.
